I started painting seriously four years ago. Prior to that my focus was on teaching Folk Art. This type of art was not very original but it taught me a great deal about colour and how to use a paint brush. There was a period of quite a few years where I did no art at all.

I joined the Wilderness Coast Artists and have benefitted greatly from the experience of the other members who are very generous in sharing their knowledge and providing advice and constructive criticism. I have participated in a wide range of workshops which has given me the opportunity to learn from some of the best tutors in acrylic, pastel and watercolour.

Watercolour has becom my medium of choice. I love its unpredictability and how you can apply it in different ways to get different effects. It has taken me some time to find my own style but I really do love painting in the realistic style.

I like painting different subjects, landscapes, birds and architecture and have just begun learning portraiture . . quite a challenge! Painting gives me a great deal of pleasure and I enjoy the sense of achievement when I have been able to capture the essence of my subject.
