Cynthia Boyle was born in Michigan in the USA. She studied Design and Illustration in Detroit before migrating to Australia in 1969.

The foundation for all her art making is a passion for drawing. "I cannot remember time when I didn't draw."  Her sketchbooks are her most valued resource. Although painting is the main vehicle for expression of her impressions of the world, she has worked on many and varied art projects in her career. These include murals, sculptures, batik wall hangings and glassware.

From 1984, she worked as a lecturer in drawing, design and illustration at Newcastle College of Advanced Education, Hunter Institute of Higher Education and The University of Newcastle.

She has also exhibited her drawings and watercolour paintings in several solo exhibitions in Newcastle and Bairnsdale and in mixed exhibitions in Newcastle, Sydney and Victoria.

She is a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists (AGRA), Australian Watercolour Society, Town and Country Painters, Wilderness Coast Artists, East Gippsland Portrait Group and Bairnsdale and District Arts Society.

Cynthia's solo exhibition, 'FOREST' in 2015 at East Gippsland Art Gallery in Bairnsdale, Victoria presented 40 acrylic paintings. In 2017 she won the Terry Collins Medallion at the Australian Art Excellence Awards at AGRA Galleries in Camberwell, Victoria. Her work has won prizes at various art competitions,

Inspiration for Cynthia's work comes from the places and people around her. As a studio painter, her sketchbooks travel with her to make sketches and drawings  and take notes. She rarely uses photographs. The paintings emerge from a combination of memory and sketches.
